My Work

From The Blog

About Oliver  - the Photographer.

I picked up a used camera in 1997 in preparation for a backpacking trip in Canada, Europe and Southern Africa.  I became fascinated by the technical and aesthetic challenge of capturing the way the scenes that I saw made me feel and quickly discovered the joy of photography and its unique way of capturing and documenting those moments.  By the time I reached home again I had decided to pursue photography as a career and have been working as a photographer ever since.

I took any photo work I could get - including school and Santa photos.  Like many photographers, I built my business around portraits and weddings.  This path taught me a lot about patience and how to get "the shot" under a variety of relatively high-pressure situations.

About 10 years into my photography career, I discovered that I was also passionate about capturing people at work. I began working with a certain type of company that seemed to value their employees as a key component to the success of their product or service and that these employees were often proud of their role at the company no matter if it was menial or highly technical. I would come away from these jobs inspired and motivated. I am naturally curious about businesses and how they operate and used that curiosity to help me craft the visual stories for companies that hired me.

Photographing architecture evolved out of my love of form and function.  Architecture is a great manifestation of this principle and I am as happy photographing highly crafted wall paneling in a multi-million dollar home that reveals a hidden elevator to the smartly designed kitchen island in a town home that has that little bit of extra storage where there otherwise would have been wasted space. I strive to represent the feel of the design and space of this three dimensional world in two dimensions.

Today my time is split between building image portfolios for Commercial Real Estate companies, creating stock libraries for companies to use in their Annual Reports, blogs and websites and marketing images for Residential Real Estate developers and builders. Sometimes, I just go for paddle in my canoe and make some images of the beautiful natural world I am surrounded by.
